Under the Sea

This was an attempt at drawing Ariel closer to what she looks like in the movie. I tend to have a problem drawing her eyes the way they actually look, so I used some reference pics and tried to work on it. I was also trying to make a more dynamic picture- one with emotion and movement. I've read this tutorial: [link] by , and it's absolutely amazing. She does a really good job of explaining how to make your drawings more interesting. I don't think I'm quite there yet, but after reading it, I'm trying harder to avoid pics of people just standing there and smiling. I think I'll always prefer the happier emotions when I can draw them, but I'll try to draw them with more of a noticable purpose.

I am really happy with her hair (though it's probably five times the volume of her hair in the movie), and her shell bra (though that might sound weird)- I'm just happy with the shading on it. Her hands look awful, and make her arms look stumpy, though I think the length of them are actually fine. I really like her tail. Her fins especially.

Please forgive the huge amount of water behind her that looks white. In the actual picture, it's where the blue gets lighter to imitate the light coming in from the top of the water, but the scanner decided that light blue=white. >_<
