This is one of five sketches I did from the Disney Archive Series book, Animation. I love the book, getting to see drawings from so many of the greatest Disney artists, and more specifically see the ones that actually made it to being cells in the movies or shorts they were drawn for. Once I got the book I knew I wanted to try and emulate some of the greats. These are the ones I've done so far.
This one is a classic picture of Lady, done by Frank Thomas originally, in the spaghetti scene. This is the moment where she turns away after meeting in the middle of the noodle with Tramp, which is such an adorable movement. Frank, I think, is my favorite of Walt's Nine Old Men, and I wanted to try to capture Lady's little shy moment. I feel like with all of these sketches, I get almost there but just haven't pushed it enough. I feel like I'm not getting quite the same emotion as the original picture, though hopefully with practice, I'll get there!

Oooh, this seems like such a neat book! I would love to see it. I'll just have to keep an eye out for it the next time I go to Downtown Disney ^^
I love the fact that you're trying to emulate Walt's Nine Old Men. They are pure genius and I admire them sooo much. Its nice to see someone else appreciate their work too ^__^ Its sad, cause I dont think a lot of people even know who they are ;-;
But as hard as the Disney style is to draw, I think you captured Lady's emotion very well. Its hard to mimic Frank's style exactly. I think only he himself could do that, lol. I think this looks like it came pretty much straight from the movie itself
